If you've ever read the comic strip Peanuts, you know Charlie Brown's friend Linus carries his blanket with him everywhere. Why? The reason is simple: a child's blanket means shelter, comfort and warmth. And that is why we've created Patches of Love.

Julie Lee founded Patches of Love, Inc, in 2003. She imagined volunteers creating individual patches that would be spread out among quilts put together by additional volunteers. Each quilt is therefore made with the love of multiple people from many walks of life, from girl scout troops to professional quilters. Some of our volunteers make just patches, others put patches into quilts, and some make entire quilts on their own. We have delivered several hundred quilts to children, and each quilt is handpicked for each child and given with a hug and hope.

When she came to medical school at University of Massachusetts, Julie introduced Patches of Love to the UMass community. With the inspiration of medical school and the guidance of mentors a medical component was incorporated into the mission. We now bring a family physician to coordinate the medical component and to supervise the medical supplies donated by MAP International and by health care workers at University of Massachussetts.

We invite you to visit our Trips section to find out more about each of our previous trips as well as our upcoming one.
